General Motors India has sold 4,865 vehicles in May 2014

General Motors India has sold 4,865 vehicles in the month of May 2014 against 8,500 units sold in the corresponding period last year. These include 1,716 units of Beat, 1,076 units of Tavera and 934 units of Chevrolet Enjoy.

“The automobile industry has been passing through challenging times for the past two years as the general economic and consumer sentiments have failed to pick up. Going forward, we hope to see some improvement in the market in the coming months with a new decisive government in place,” said P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India.

General Motors India recently announced the production of export vehicles to be started at its Talegaon Plant in the second half of 2014, with sales commencing in Chile in the first quarter of 2015.

Its first export model will be the left-hand-drive version of the Chevrolet Beat. The fuel-efficient smart city car is already built and sold in many markets around the world.

“The start of Beat exports underlines GM’s commitment to India and demonstrates the quality of the country’s growing supplier base,” said GM India President and Managing Director Arvind Saxena. “The exports will create more employment opportunities within GM India and the supplier community while helping improve capacity utilization at the Talegaon Plant.”
